Description

9th (Service) Battalion, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

Charles Yates, born in 1880 in Chorlton, Lancashire, was the second son of Michael Lavery Yates and Mary Ann, née Livsey, of River Dale, Didsbury, Manchester.

He enlisted in November 1914, and served in France and Belgium.

He was killed in action at Vimy Ridge, on 15th May 1916, aged 36 and is buried at Écoivres Military Cemetery, Mont-Saint-Éloi, Pas-de-Calais, France.
